Luxury hotel group Aman has opened Amanvari, a new resort on the East Cape of Mexico's Baja California peninsula, as first reported by [Elle Decor](https://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/a73346382/aman-mexico-hotel-opening/?ref=thepenthouseedit.com). The property sits within Costa Palmas, a 1,500 acre coastal community also home to a Four Seasons and a Robert Trent Jones II designed golf course, and marks Aman's latest expansion into the Americas following resorts such as Amangiri in Utah and Amanera in the Dominican Republic.

Rather than conventional hotel rooms, Amanvari is built around 18 private casitas averaging 82 square meters each, designed by Toronto based Elastic Architects with input from Heah and Co. Sliding glass doors open each casita onto a terrace with a private heated pool, framing views across the Sea of Cortes, while the low, sand toned architecture was designed to trace a path between desert and ocean rather than interrupt it.

The resort sits on an estuary where fresh water meets the sea, a setting Aman has built its guest experiences around. Visitors can hike into the nearby Sierra de la Laguna mountains, snorkel or dive along the coral reefs of the Sea of Cortes, once called the aquarium of the world for its marine biodiversity, or ride horses across the surrounding coastline.

Wellness is central to the offering, including a contemporary take on the temazcal, a Mesoamerican sweat lodge ritual heated with volcanic rock and led by a shaman, alongside a spa with hydro houses, a hammam and a 24 hour fitness centre. Aman Group chairman and chief executive Vlad Doronin called the opening a milestone for the brand, saying "Amanvari establishes a new benchmark for hospitality on Baja's East Cape."

Amanvari joins a growing list of Aman properties across the Americas at a moment when the brand's name has become shorthand for understated luxury among high end travellers. More on the resort is available through [Aman](https://www.aman.com/resorts/amanvari?ref=thepenthouseedit.com).
