Interior designer Shea McGee has opened her first retail flagship, a 7,500 square foot McGee and Co store in Salt Lake City's Trolley Square neighbourhood, as first reported by [Architectural Digest](https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/shea-mcgees-retail-empire-is-just-getting-started?ref=thepenthouseedit.com). The building, formerly a Hard Rock Cafe and before that a comedy club, took two years to renovate before opening to the public on 25 September.

The store is designed to feel like stepping inside a full Studio McGee home, laid out across an entryway, multiple dining, living and bed rooms, and a garden shop. Showroom pieces such as the brand's Octavia sectional sit alongside in-store-only vintage finds and hand-picked lines including Match pewter and Caroline Francis candles, with a design services area offering shoppers free personalised furniture recommendations.

McGee, who co-founded the design firm Studio McGee with her husband Syd in 2014, built the wider McGee business through Instagram, the Netflix series Dream Home Makeover and licensing deals with Target, Kohler and Ann Sacks. She describes the retail move as the next stage of the company after years spent selling furniture and home goods online, one she calls McGee 3.0.

Reflecting on seeing her designs in a physical space for the first time, McGee said of the experience, "I'm getting to see our products through new eyes." The couple now plan to open between three and six additional stores over the next two years.

The Salt Lake City flagship marks the first time the wider public can experience the McGee aesthetic in three dimensions rather than through a screen or a client project. More on the brand is available through [McGee and Co](https://www.mcgeeandco.com/?ref=thepenthouseedit.com).
